Have you guys seen those movies like Iron man where they have holographic projections and screens all around them. It looks so futuristic and cool. Imagine if we could have such things now. Well, it’s not practically possible as of now but still, we have something very similar to it around us. If we give time that day is not far from us when holographic screens will be a reality but today we are not talking about this we are talking about something else.
We are going to discuss one of the most useful and the basic need for any professional or student. Which is also an essential part of a computer and gives a tap sound when we press it. Yes, we are going to talk about the latest technological advancement in ‘Keyboard’.
There are numerous keyboards in the market but one of the most innovative of them is the holographic keyboard. It doesn’t take up much space and is easy to carry anywhere. Holographic keyboard can be easily connected to a laptop or mobile and they are so precise that there is no chance for error in typing. A holographic keyboard is an input device which projects keys on the surface turning it into a virtual keyboard. It gives you a wide space to type and perform your work as there are no actual keys on the keyboard and you can literally type on anything. It is compatible with mobile, windows, tablet, ios etc. Some virtual keyboards even have inbuilt mouse embedded in the keyboard.
When did it Start?
First holographic keyboard was invented and patented by IBM engineers in 1992 and the company name Canesta developed this technology using proprietary electronic perception technology. Since then, many other companies have tried to improve this holographic keyboard technology.
Now the question arises what is electronic perception technology?
Electronic perception technology (EPT) is defined as the single chip, low cost which enables electronic components to create a 3-D map around its surrounding and to see what its user wants from the device.

These types of keyboard are equipped with an infrared sensor which senses motion immediately and the software converts coordinates to identify the character which are given by the user.

Typing:-
One of the main tasks for which we are using a Holographic keyboard is typing as we discussed above. Point infrared light used to project keys. Breaking the key link with your finger triggers the software of the keyboard to detect which key is pressed or which character is used in short by touching or by pressing the key it triggers the character and sends it to the CPU to process.
Connection:-
Holographic keyboard is connected using Bluetooth. It is compatible with bluetooth devices and ios devices. As it is the easiest means to connect any device to your gadget as every device even though windows has bluetooth and for ios there also a option in it. After connection is stabilized, we are ready to use our keyboard.

- No feel of typing on the keyboard because it is the virtual keyboard.
- When the user is new, it’s very hard for the user to get used to it.
- It is more compatible in a dark room rather than in a lighted room.
